Heck, I'm a Canadian. Actually, I am an ex-US citizen (conducting my Viet Nam service in Canada). I'm heading down. I think I'll vote for both guys.
Seriously, given that the results are so close it does not matter now which man wins. It simply does NOT matter. The office of the Presidency will be larded in the mire of votes, re-votes, law suits, accusations of 'no mandate' etc. The next president will have no power. The trump card is that Congress is split.
Kids, can you spell "gridlock"?
Think about it. Imagine that President Gore/Bush nominates his candidate for the next Supreme Court opening. Sure,....the losing side will just go, "Okay, s/he can sit. Uh....sure cuz we're Americans." Ain't gonna happen that way. It's going to be: "Whomever you nominate, I will fight and kill with controversy, you SOB!" That sort of enmity was present throughout the Clinton presidency and will be present ten-fold in the next.
If I had an opinion as to who should have become president, I would want my guy to drop out and give the grief to the other guy. That'd be the smart thing to do.
In the mean time, as we've been hearing for weeks on CNBC--that paragon of really good information--gridlock is good for investors. Maybe not good for the US country as a whole, but good for us and that's all that counts. Isn't it?
