Jmac, I have to dispute a few things and clarify some others. In 1992 Clinton realized he had to distance the party from the far left and he won. Since then the republicans have been trying to distance themselves from the religious right. Did you hear Colin Powell speak at the convention? He sounded much more like a democrat than republican. Did you notice how the right to life rhetoric was muffled? Both parties are moving toward the middle. We shouldn't let organizations do our thinking for us. I am an environmentalist, but I can't support the Sierra Club. I am a hunter and own lots of guns, but I can't support the NRA. I don't believe in abortion, but I am pro-choice. >> he is locked into allowing drilling for oil in Anwar<< I believe that ANWR should be opened for drilling. The oil companies have done an excellent job of producing oil on the north slope with minimum damage to the environment. The fact that it is called the "Artic national wildlife refuge" makes it sound like a beautiful spot, it isn't. It is an artic desert. I have been there. Federal forests should be harvested in a responsible manner. >>These are just a few issues which are black and white.<< There are very few issues that I find black & white. I am resistant to party line, group think, us-them sort of mentalities. I appreciate your willingness to stand up to dominant views expressed on this thread.
