Shareholders often hope when they should fear, and fear when they should hope; i.e., they sell their winners too early, and hold their losers too long.

Definitely! But, and a big BUT, nobody I know has ever timed the market movement perfectly. The markets tend to move more based on mass psychology than facts. Investing based on this will make one a more successful investor IMO. But even so, it doesn't mean ALL stocks deserve to get trashed along with those which never should have seen the light of day to start with. To those that believe the markets are always right, I say hogwash. The markets are as imperfect and inefficient as the carbon-based species which rallied some idiotic dotcoms to ridiculous stock prices and P/E levels 12 months ago, and dumped many cash-producing real companies recently. The markets are always right only for those always on the right side of the fence. Such people don't exist. I say invest as you think not as you see.
