No, bland is not familiar with Margulis, but will look up the name.

"Influence", by Robert Cialdini, is a classic in the field of psychological persuasion.

Yes, your comments are exactly right. We have embedded patterns of belief jousting with other embedded patterns of belief here, a perfect example of it. In some individuals the patterns are more thoroughly and deeply knit through with rationally (on both sides of the aisle), in others, they are more or less easily accepted on first contact but just as firmly embedded...less neurons activated in getting the pattern in place and justifying it...but the deep conviction "feels" just as powerful and justified regardless. If the original marbles had simply rolled down a few other slots...a different pattern could just as easily have kicked into place with equal conviction. It is fascinating, indeed. Like-minded individuals adhere to each other like water molecules becoming drops of rain...attracting on some patterns and repelling on others simultaneously, sloshing around within a larger whole.

You can likely order the book directly from the UK, straight from the site you found it. Bland orders books from all over the world.

Bland views third person simply as an opportunity to be quietly silly, for little or no expense.
