Surely you can't think I'm an antipodean... or are you looking for alternative domiciles (g) ?
As far as the UK is concerned, it's perfectly feasible to be able to form a government without a majority of the popular vote - happened last in 1974 I think. Given the 'first past the post' system for electing MPs, and the current three (vaguely) credible parties, getting an absolute majority with less than 40% of the popular vote is possible.

None of this really matters in the long run. So long as you can throw the bastards (of whichever persuasion) out at the next election, it's not too serious.
