You don't understand. Bush had his chance to ask for manual recounts too but was too confident pretending to be preparing his transition. Meanwhile he missed the thursday night deadline to ask for recounts of his own. It was a simple legal mistake based on over-coinfidence. The Bush spin was to pretend like it was no problem and the election was already over. In the process of trying to rise above the fray (even though they challenged in New Mexico and sure enough went ahead) they may have lost the war. But we'll see. It will still be very-very close and anything could happen.
