Bush holds himself as a strict constructionist and federalist. For him to urge a Federal Court to read a "machine clause" into the Constitution to overturn the way in which a state operates its elections it truly remarkable. Having said that, I continue to believe that they should hand count the entire state. Not for George Bush's benefit, whose arrogance in declining to ask for a manual recount may be his undoing, but for the benefit of the country and for that matter for Gore. If he wins, he is going to be in a much better position if the entire state was manually counted.
