This whole situation boils down to two points:

- Gore won the popular vote so morally he deserves to win
but he won't unless he gets Florida which is so close it's excrutiating.

- It may turn out that Bush's smug act pretending that he had already won when the absentee ballots hadn't even come in yet is his greatest sin of pride and tactical error. If he had been more on the ball (by him I mean his lawyers too) the GOP would have moved in the way the Dems did to claim whatever legal territory they could before the Thursday night deadline. But they didn't. Hence, Bush's pretending he'd already won may end up costing him the election. Smug pride = self-defeat.

But we'll see. Still anything could happen.
