Multi,

Hole punches tend to work better when there is a lot of force applied. Slower acceleration of the blade through the paper tends to leave ragged edges. If the hole is not cut cleanly, it is possible that one side may be left hanging, particularly if the blade is dulled.

Zeev's point is not as ridiculous as you make it out to be.
