I too thought that huge numbers of absentee ballots were still to be received, but after some investigation I am learning otherwise. For example, the much discussed absentee ballots in Florida involve only a few overseas ballots that have not yet made it to the US. All the other absentee ballots, including overseas ballots received earlier are included already in the unofficial results that have Bush ahead by some 300 votes.

It seems to me that the vast majority of the absentee ballots have already been included in the unofficial counts, which are reported by CNN and have Gore up by 222,000 votes nationwide. For example, California is often sited as a state where "one million absentee ballots are still to be counted". However, a check at the CNN site shows California with 100% of the precincts reporting with Gore winning it by a 54 to 42% margin over Bush.

What am I missing? Where are you getting your information about large numbers of uncounted absentee ballots? I am very much interested, since I believe that only a President that wins the popular vote can claim legitimacy.
