No, not since the webcast a week and a half ago, in which the GM news was good: stay in the ~ 63% range for as far as Intel projected it, into Q3 2001. They didn't talk ASP, AFAIK, as Intel prefers to talk GMs. Actually, with AMD delaying SMP, even the simplest level of it, 2-way, out to H1 2001, and 4, 8-way out to 2002, there is no threat to GMs in the Xeon space for a long time. This could make it even better, although I bet Intel knew about those AMD SMP delays when they made the good GM prediction, or felt AMD didn't matter.

That Dell has a problem should be no longer a surprise.
The biggest hit was Friday when Mark Edelstone of MSDW downgraded Intel to neutral, along with Dell. He's reasons were competition from AMD and the big die size of the P4. Well, AMD also "withdrew" their 1.5 GHz Athlon prediction from (January?), and slipped SMP way out, so I think he's got egg on his face. Oh, he may have also said something like he wants to see October PC demand numbers before he decides how bad the PC market may or may not be. OTOH, IDC sees upper teens percent PC growth next year, Intel agreed, and that ain't bad. Bottom line, to me, was that Intel's webcast was pretty doggone positive, and that's good enough for me.
