I probably agree with everything in you post. Maybe even the part about totally and completely confused.

However, in addition to the count and re-counts you outlined the Bush team requested another machine re-count. In that re-count of the 1%, Gore picked up 27 and Bush lost 3 votes from the previous machine count[paying attention to your Note: on the previous post, one should not have lost votes] I'm pretty certain about the 3 number and it was close to 27 if not 27. I remember reading it on an AP wire. Tried to find it again a few minutes ago, but wasn't successfull. It came out at the same time the county reported the 1% which was around 1:45AM ET --was that this AM or yesterday's AM; I'm confused.

The machine re-count hasn't received a lot of press or attention since everyone seems to be enjoying the discussion of chard and light tests so much. <s> But there was an additional machine re-count other than the ones you've identified that paralleled the 1% manual count.
