2001 - The Crisis, Ramifications

Big: If I were running a major oil company right now, and I agreed with your perspective, I would be in the market to acquire one of the major drillers just to ensure access to rigs when the crisis arrives. I know this goes against the recent trend of de-coupling the vertically integrated conglomerates, but I think the time is ripe for some more progressive thinking in light of the tightening fundamentals and the positive outlook for the industry over the next few years.

So here's my prediction: One of the supermajors (e.g., ExxonMobil, BP Amoco, Chevron Texaco) will acquire one of the major drilling companies (e.g., Pride International, Noble Drilling, Marine Drilling, Diamond Offshore, Transocean Sedco) sometime in the next 12 months.
