<<Why would he ask for a recount when he had already been told he had won?>>

Well he can gamble that he won - with the count so low or he could have filed for a recount of Republican counties as the Democrats were filing for recounts of Democratic counties.

BTW - I see nothing wrong at all with a manual recount.
The two electronic counts showed big differences. Gore picked up votes. Possibly because of the perforation issue.

What's wrong with checking the ballots to see.
Bush took a gamble on the basis of 300 or fewer votes. Not very smart (or perhaps there was fraud in those Republican counties).

With several people watching the manual recount process, I have no doubt it will be fair. What harm is there in waiting an extra day or two with the stakes this huge?

Republicans do not want the recount because they think it might cause them to lose. No more - no less.
Had they been behind - there would be recount requests all over the place, don't you agree?

That is why I thought a total manual recount would be fair.
Unfortunately it would not be legal at this point.
There's fair and there's legal.

I have always been in favor of fair.
What's fair IMHO is a manual recount of the entire state.

Gore would likely fight this.
Bush would fight this if the situation were reversed.

Both are disgusting IMHO and McCain probably would have won easily.
