Hi All: This will be my final post on this issue until Florida makes a final, final, final, final certification of the balloting on November 17th. <g> My position will change of course, if Janet Reno sends in "her boys" to take over the ballot boxes and the Florida Election Commission about 0300 hours some day this week <gg>. On the serious side, I have a comment about the Electoral College. Having grown up in North Dakota and and having lived in several very large cities I can clearly see the value of maintaining the EC just as it is. A wise man named DeTocqueville once said that government must be mindful of something he called a tyranny in Democracy. My belief is that if the EC were changed to permit a majority national vote as "the criteria for determining distribution of the EC votes" then the North Dakota's of this country would forever not be fully represented in the Presidential election. In other words, the eastern seaboard, Miami, Chicago, Detroit, Dallas, Los Angeles (you get the picture) would control the EC merely by the size of the populus. I would find each election much more interesting if there were more than one Competitive Candidate. In fact, I would like a minimum of three each time. Even Jesse Jackson should recognize that a change to EC would create a tyranny of the majority and therefore harm the "minorities". Although, they might be from places like Kansas or Idaho or the Dakotas.
