Hi George, No, it's checkers with Georgia.

I need to get serious for a moment concerning the election.

As much as it huts to say it.....Al Gore will be the 43d president of the United States and it is simply because the Gore campaign (Mr. Daley...he’s an expert) was more astute than the Bush campaign. Requesting a hand count of 4 democratic counties was either a stroke of genius or extreme stupidity on the part of the Bush campaign for not requesting the same thing for Republican counties.

Using the preliminary numbers of the partial "hand count" from Palm Beach county and assuming it was impartial, it appears that 1.05% of the ballots cast were rejected by the electronic count. This was probably due to ballots that were not thoroughly "punched". This 1.05% was evenly spread to Republicans and Democrats. The "new votes" revealed in the Palm Beach sample, that were rejected by the electronic vote, were 33 for Al Gore and 19 for George Bush. These "new votes" reflect the ratio that Al Gore won Palm Beach county (269,000 to 153,000) and indicate that the electronic vote was impartial.

Since the Bush campaign didn’t request a recount, no Republican counties will be recounted using the "hand count." If the "hand count" is allowed to be the official count for these counties, Mr. Gore will pick up a substantial number of votes. I would estimate around 6000 votes as indicated below.

Volusia county ............+410

Broward county.........+2352

Dade county..............+1341

Palm Beach county...+1492

These numbers were calculated by simply using the ratios of the votes tabulated by the electronic count. If these numbers turn out to be correct, then the "will of the people" did not determine the election, but the cleverness of the Mr. Daley and the Gore campaign. A "hand count" of the entire state would result in a slightly larger victory for Mr. Bush.
