That last paragraph really hits it, and that's exactly the way all the legacy CTO's/ VP-E's argue that they're happy with what they've got now. Here's a quote from Alex Best (exec VP of engineering) of Cox, re: ftth:

" Even if you could do it, why would you do it? It's kind of like building a six-lane expressway up to your driveway. It's nice, but it's not necessary. Since we have a hybrid-fiber coax, we still maintain that it's the most cost-effective and, in fact, offers enough bandwidth to do everything that we can imagine going forward. "

--You don't have a very good imagination Alex.
Hmmm, Alex Best has announced his retirement...maybe that's the extent of his forward imagination<gg>.
