I'll answer your question. for the last two years the GOP has poured tons of money into a CIA-type disinformation campaign versus Al Gore. They picked out his greatest strengths and credits (honesty and integrity, family man, internet champion, environmental leadership, nuclear and foreign policy expert) then chose those exact strengths to attack then try to ridicule. examples:

Buddhist Temple (shades of communism attack) one out of a thousand functions Gore attended. Maybe it was a fundraiser but who doesn't need to raise money to keep up with the GOP's huge corporate soft money?

"I invented the internet" - he simply never said that at all, a total lie backed by an enormous disinformation campaign. And he DOES deserve credit for government support of the internet. He was the #1 senator and congressman championing the net before it existed as we know it.

Also Love Story and Love Canal - all blatant lies spread by the GOP operatives. (though it's true Al has exaggerated from time to time, same as any politician IMHO)

Iran-Russia story - to try and discount Al's profound understanding of Russian and nuclear issues.

"He wants to eliminate the gasoline engine". Not surprising as an attack. Al wrote in "Earth In Balance" that industry could work WITH environmentalists. Certainly we all agree that someday we should not need to be polluting our air anymore. Human ingenuity can and will develop engines which burn clean recyclable energy source such as hydrogen. It's already three in fact. Just needs development. Most cities in the world are terribly polluted from exhaust fumes, worse than any American city. It needs to be done.

Trying to link Gore with Clinton's sexual misdaventures. Nothing could be more unfair. I doubt if Gore has ever slept with anyone other than Tipper in his life.

If you know anything about how the CIA and other similar masterminds work to destroy people it's not always with violence. Disinformation and false rumors work just as well. Because by the time the target has denied them they're already in the air and "true" to many ignorant people.

Hey this is politics and the stakes are high. I expect no less from the Republicans. especially after Clinton whipped their asses twice in a row despite his "smoking bimbos".
