scum:
First, let me preface, these are your conclusions, not mine, and not necessary Republicans'.
1. Hand counts are bad because they are subject to human error. Unless the hand count is in New Mexico or Texas, where they are a good thing.
Hand counts are good when necessary. In Palm Beach County, a hand count is arguably not necessary. You have to recall that this whole Palm Beach County thing blew up not because of errors in machine counting, but because of a large number of voters that couldn't read a ballot. The Secretary of State of Florida has already ruled the ballot to be legal. It always was.
Despite this fact, the Democrats have pushed for a hand count beyond the state-mandated recount by virtue of the strong Democratic hold in Palm Beach County, and now Broward and Volusia Counties. The "irregularities" now claimed by the Democrats are anything but irregular. In-fact such machine errors are commonplace. Heck just take a look at Daley's own Cook County.
Now you can counter that hand-count is mandated by these "irregularities." Notwithstanding the subjectivity that enters into this process, I ask you, is it fair to hand count only those three counties in the State of Florida that are clearly Democratic strongholds? You talk about hand counts not being "bad." That's not the point. The point here is in order to effect the "will of the people," the canvassed vote in each county, not only in Florida, but in every county in every other state, should be treated equally, in accordance with the voting procedures set forth in each county. Don't you think that if the Republicans pushed for a hand count in some Republican strongholds in Florida they would pick up votes?
2. Hand counts are OK in the rest of Florida, if it turns out that Gore wins PB county.
Your logic is flawed here, and facetious. Hand counts are not preferred UNLESS there is evidence of fraud that would require a hands-on effort to root out the fraud from the canvass of the ballots or an irregularity that is so obtuse that would show a machine count to be fundamentally flawed. The fact that a machine count disqualified a given number or given percentage of ballots is NO basis for a hand count. This happens in every voter district. Check your facts.
3. No hand counts are acceptable after Tuesday night, unless PB county completes theirs by Tuesday night, and then post-Tuesday night hand counts are OK.
You begin, with increasing fashion, to show your ignorance. At issue is Florida state law, not Republican rules. State law requires the canvassing boards to certify the results of the canvassing of their district's votes by 5 pm Tuesday. However, if the Republicans wish, they are free to file suit to challenge the validity of Florida law as it may pertain to a national election where greater interests are at stake, the fate of the next presidency. The Florida legislature may very well to have intended that such procedures be limited to state, county and local elections, and not an election that is of tremendous national interest. These are constitutional issues of which you appear to know little. A law is to be upheld unless it is voided by a court of competent jurisdiction. Courts exist to interpret the law, and to strike a law as overbroad when it applies to factual situations that it was not intended to apply. The only way to interpret whether a statute is overbroad is to go to court.
4. States rights are important, unless they favor Gore.
States' rights are important, however, you fail to realize that State law mandates a recount, but not a hand count. It provides for a hand count when it is merited. The canvassing boards of each of the Democratic leaning counties decided to move to a hand count upon a finding of fact that is questionable, and which may very well only be legally determined by a disinterested judge in the event of litigation. Your statement is a gross generalization of the issue.
5. Lawyers are bad, unless they work for Bush.
Your conclusive nature is convincing enough that you clearly don't have a grasps of the issues at stake. I guess your point is that lawyer involvement in this matter is no good. If that's your point, then I agree with it. But first, you must appreciate that it was Al Gore that chose to send Warren Christopher and a team of lawyers into Florida first, not George W. It was litigious language by Bill Daley that set the tone in Florida the first day after the election. Instead of waiting for the mandatory recount to be complete, Daley couldn't hold back his desire to express his intent to sue to win this election. Yes, lawyers are bad here, but it is the Democrats, not the Republicans, that drew first blood.
Lemme ask you a question, if you were in a fight, and your opponent picked up a baseball bat and threaten to hit you over the head with hit, and the same weapon was at your disposal, what would you do?
This will be my first & only response to you as I can see you have very little understanding of the issues surrounding this matter. |
