Paul, I especially liked these two statements from the AMD spokesman: “But we think that the AMD-760 MP chipset, with its dual-processor capability, will be an excellent offering for the server market.” “Mustang's still a product,” the spokesman said. “If the market needs it and wants it we can bring it back.” I wonder if anyone sees the discrepancy here. The server market can really use large-cache processors, even on their 2-way SMP systems. And because of the way the 760MP chipset is designed (the MOESI cache protocol, two EV6 buses but only one DDR channel), that chipset could have also made good use of large-cache processors. But AMD is saying that the market doesn't really need Mustang? Hogwash. If AMD wants 760MP to be competitive in server performance, they're not going to do it without more on-die cache on the processors. (2-way SMP w/ normal-cache-size processors can make an excellent workstation, since those types of applications are the type that are more oriented toward computations than transactions. But it seems it's more hip to talk about servers instead of workstations.) Tenchusatsu
