QLogic Demonstrates Switch-to-Switch Interoperability at Comdex

SANbox(TM) Is First Fibre Channel Switch to Pass FCIA's SANmark(TM) Compatibility Test

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 13, 2000-- QLogic Corp. (NASDAQ:QLGC - news), the leading SAN infrastructure provider, today announced it is demonstrating switch-to-switch compatibility between Brocade and QLogic SANbox switches at Fall Comdex in the Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA) booth L3215. SANbox products are interoperable with switches from all other major vendors including Gadzoox, McData and Vixel.

In addition, QLogic also disclosed that the SANbox-8 just became the first Fibre Channel switch to pass the FCIA's stringent SANmark(TM) qualification tests, joining the company's QLA2100 Series, QLA2200 Series and QLA2300 Series Fibre Channel host bus adapters as SANmark certified. The SANmark program was designed by the FCIA to ensure Fibre Channel device interoperability in storage area networks (SANs).

QLogic's SANbox Fibre Channel switches support the FC-SW-2 standard for switch-to-switch compatibility, created by the American National Standards Institute's (ANSI). SANbox switches are interoperable with all other vendors' switches that implement the ANSI FC-SW-2 standard.

``Multi-vendor switch compatibility is an essential part of SAN growth because customers will want to add to and reconfigure their systems as storage needs change,'' said David Deming, president of the FCIA and chairman of the organization's qualification program. ``QLogic has shown that it's a consistent leader in the deployment of Fibre Channel infrastructure products that promote interoperability, through its participation in industry efforts and its own internal testing.''

In addition to participating in all major industry interoperability programs, QLogic operates its own program, SANtrack(TM), to update customers, partners and the industry on its Fibre Channel test laboratory and SAN interoperability testing. Information about testing, hardware and software compatibility lists, sample test plans and SAN configurations can be accessed on QLogic's Web site at www.qlogic.com/products/santrack_over1.html.

``Interoperability is a top priority at QLogic and an absolutely critical component to the successful implementation of SANs,'' said Larry Fortmuller, vice president of marketing, QLogic Corporation. ``We are pleased to see consistently successful results with our SAN infrastructure products, from host adapters to switches. Participation in key programs like SANmark and SANtrack are essential as QLogic strives to simplify SAN solutions for VARs, SSPs and IT professionals by delivering products with proven interoperability in heterogeneous SANs.''

QLogic SANbox switches link multiple servers to multiple storage devices, increasing the availability of data throughout the enterprise. End-user productivity is enhanced as multiple servers gain high-speed ``any-to-any'' access to previously isolated storage. The QLogic SANbox product line features 8-, 16-, 64-, and 128-port switches and a variety of included software tools. By incorporating these reliable, highly-scalable products in their own solutions, QLogic's OEM and Systems Integrator partners maximize the benefits of today's state-of-the-art SAN technologies.

QLogic simplifies SAN implementations by providing OEMs, system integrators and resellers with a single point of contact for end-to-end SAN hardware and software. Customers value QLogic's technology, support and ability to provide best-of-breed products with short time-to-sales. QLogic saves customers time and resources by providing a portfolio of hardware, software and service components. With these tools, OEMs and resellers can develop and deploy SAN connectivity solutions faster, more cost effectively and with less risk.

QLogic products can be seen in the Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA) booth L3215 at Fall Comdex in Las Vegas, November 13-17, 2000.
