Srexley: I don't believe I'm wrong. The stats I saw showed that only 3 to 5 percent of African-Americans voted for Bush nationally. So I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and state that 95% of the African-Americans in the U.S. are aligned against Bush.

The African-American support for Gore was significantly higher than what Clinton received in '92 and '96.

So the question is, "Why?"

This question has not been addressed in detail on CNN, MSNBC and the like or in newspapers because of the Florida confusion. However, a black political analyst said last night that the reason so many blacks voted for Gore was that blacks, as a whole, are afraid of a Republican presidency coupled with a Republican Congress. In essence, they are afraid of right-wing white backlash. And I agree with that.

The fact of the matter is Americans, as ethnic, gender or religious groups, are not capable of achieving the same level of success because of ongoing race-economic-religious discrimination. Strides have been made the past 35 years, but much remains to be done.
