This retail offering represents a key milestone in broadband deployment, providing consumers with a quick and convenient way to get broadband high-speed Internet connection. In addition to faster speeds than dial-up, broadband offers richer content, streaming video and an ``always-on'' connection. The kit is available at RadioShack stores in Comcast markets in the mid-Atlantic region and in CompUSA and Circuit City stores in all Comcast Online markets. The broadband cable market continues to gain momentum and, according to Forrester Research, is projected to reach 15-20 million subscribers by 2004.

The kit walks the customer through the installation process with step-by-step, easy-to-follow instructions. Once a consumer has purchased the QuickStart Kit, the customer simply calls their cable operator to have an account established. Next, the customer inserts the StartUp CD, and is presented with a consumer-friendly ``wizard'' that simplifies the entire installation process. Once connected and activated, consumers will immediately experience the high-speed and rich content of broadband Internet service.
``Now consumers can walk into their neighborhood store and get broadband in a box,'' said Byron Smith, executive vice president, consumer broadband services and chief marketing officer. ``The important new retail channel gives consumers the ability to connect to broadband on their own time and at their own convenience.''
Unlike other ``self-install'' products that require significant technician intervention and long wait times, the Excite@Home QuickStart Kit makes getting the @Home service easy. Consumers can now purchase a QuickStart Kit, which has a suggested retail price of $29.95, and a cable modem (sold separately) from their local electronics retailer and install the service themselves in a few quick and easy steps.
The @Home service offers high-speed Internet access through an ``always on'' connection. Features of the service also include a customer software package, easy to use features and personalized broadband content from one of the world's leading portals, Excite. The service is delivered over cable lines with no interruption to television viewing during simultaneous use.
Excite@Home expects to continue to expand its retail offering throughout 2001.
