Excommunication is a Catholic rite; as far as I know (and I know lots of Jews) there is no similar concept in Judaism. There are (at least) three branches of Judaism with differing beleifs and rituals. While some Orthodox rabbis sometimes claim that members of other branches (and sometimes members of there own branches) are no longer Jews, they are mostly regarded as nutcases. There is no central religious authority in Judaism as there is in Catholicism. 2. I have the distinct impression that a large majority of Americans Jews were ecstatic to have a fellow Jew on a national ticket. 3. So what precisely is in the Democratic platform that they would find so bad? And who honestly believes anymore that party platforms actually mean anything? 4. << Some members of the Democratic party are hell bent on doing away with all morals>> Yes there probably are a few who would like major changes in current commonly accepted morals. And the same can be said of the Republican party. But "doing away with all morals"? I doubt that. I really doubt that.
