Pravin,

<It looks like my mobile Athlon concerns have been confirmed by AMD:

Mark Bode, a division marketing manager, said AMD also was still wrestling with heat concerns surrounding
the mobile chips. Desktop Athlons normally consume 60 watts, while a notebook chip needs to come in at 20
watts or less. >

These concerns are nothing new - laptops require lower power CPUs than desktops. Intel and AMD know how to take their fastest parts and run it at low voltages to meet the power number.

This power issue seems to be a fancy side step by Mark Bode to deflect the real issue - Palomino/infrastructure slip.

If power were THE reason, wouldn't you think Palomino desktop would be shipping now?

If you remember, the roadmap used to be Corvette mobile in H2. Then it became Palomino mobile in Q4. Then it became Palomino desktop in Q4 followed by Palomino laptop in Q1. Now it is Palomino desktop/laptop in Q1.

In parallel the ALI mobile chipset slipped from production in H2 to samples in Q4.

This is slip city. The marketing dance of justification is not surprising.
