Limit the campaigns to 3 - 5 months... If we want to get the money out of politics, we need to provide the public money. We also need to outlaw all negative adds, and bring some civility back to the campaigns.

Its true negative campaigning is often dishonest and usually at least slightly misleading but it is not always dishonest, distorting or misleading. I would distinguish between dishonest campaining and negative campaigning.

Personally I care more about freedom of speech then short , civil or even 100% honest campaigns. I would have to oppose the sort of restrictions that you argue for, esp. if they apply to adds by people or groups besides the canidates and parties. I also don't like spending public money on election campaigns.
