MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (CBS.MW) - Despite announcing a deal with Wal-Mart to increase the retail presence of the Visor handheld computer, Handspring shares dropped almost 12 percent Monday in the broader market sell-off.

The maker of the Visor handheld computer (HAND: news, msgs) saw its shares down $8.88 to $66.25.

The drop came as the company announced a reseller agreement that would make its hardware and software products available at some 500 Wal-Mart stores and online at Wal-Mart.com.

The deal also follows Handspring's October 30 announcement that it would sell its products through national retailer Target Stores, in time for the holiday shopping season.

Other wireless companies suffered in the market doldrums as well.

Palm shares (PALM: news, msgs) were down 7 percent at $45.56. Shares in AvantGo (AVGO: news, msgs) fell slightly more than 7 percent to $9.75, and handheld modem provider OmniSky (OMNY: news, msgs) dropped just under 7 percent to trade at $7.63.
