Election official Rocio Gamboa told Reuters that in Doña Ana County, which is in southern New Mexico, an election worker had entered the wrong number of votes for Gore in a computer while tallying absentee ballots from one precinct. “They put in 161 when it was supposed to be 661,” she said, resulting in Gore’s failing to be credited with 500 votes.
