Hi Carl - just some random musing on your last 2 posts. You are right b/c the certainty of the hack. But of course, there are many ways to profit from such a hack. Let's say Iraq want to disrupt our election process, all is required is to launch a denial-of-service attack. Or, if indeed the crackers got hold of some registration #s, they have not know the validity, but the odd is in their favor, because the burden of certainty is on the side of a legitimate election. I see 2 problems. Either the votes in question are fraudulent or duplicate votes result in tossing the good ones out with the bad ones.
That said, preventative measures [against general attack] are available and strong authenication can defeat simplistic cracker attack. For example, they are use dual key authenication etc etc
On a separate note, yes, even Castro tries to make an one upmanship comment about sending the observers here. However, messy and unseemingly this episode may look, this is actual the envy of the world. There is no secret that I ve come to regard both sides are engaging in politics as usual, but my feeling notwithstanding, where else in the world can we find this kind of dispute pertaining to the fate of the nation of the next four yrs with such strong public feeling but w/o any military intervention?!
As Voltaire would say, this is still the best of all possible worlds. I mean, there are many things I don't like, but people are working on it. There may be casualties along the way, and I don't know if they are necessary, but so long as diversity persists, rest assured there are advocacy for the under privileged.
