EXTR--Lockheed Martin Standardizes on Broadband Infrastructure From Extreme Networks
Broadband Ethernet Network Speeds Realization of Space-Age Aircraft For Prestigious Joint Strike Fighter Program
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Lockheed Martin Aeronautics -- Ft. Worth has selected campus switching infrastructure from Extreme Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: EXTR - news) to provide the networking foundation for its role in the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program and the continued development of F-22 and F-16 aircraft.

To ensure its ability to demonstrate advanced technology in all phases of production, Lockheed Martin has migrated to Extreme Networks' Gigabit Ethernet switching platform to support data intensive 3-D virtual modeling and converged communications among its staff of more than 10,000.

``Modern infrastructure, networks and platforms are at the heart of all we do and our high-end engineering applications require complimentary high speed bandwidth to support our vision of an IP-only network,'' said Craig Andersen of Lockheed Martin Aeronautics-Fort Worth. ``The move to Gigabit Ethernet and Layer-3 switching was necessary to compete for the JSF contract and support all other programs. Extreme Networks met our needs by providing the fastest networking architecture combined with IP management features to ensure performance across every segment of the network.''

Lockheed's staff regularly accesses file sizes of 500Gb or more from high-end workstations. With Gigabit switching at the core, these files flow swiftly across the network keeping lost time at a minimum. Additionally, collaboration between staff is implemented with the use of IP video and voice applications running faultlessly with Extreme Networks' integrated policy management features, provisioning bandwidth based upon application and user needs.

``Lockheed Martin's choice of Extreme Networks to provide the network foundation for the JSF program is a testament to our technology reaching the world's most significant computing applications,'' said George Prodan, vice president of worldwide marketing for Extreme Networks. ``This is a compelling project leveraging our capabilities to guarantee network performance and meet future needs with Ethernet.''
