Dear High Hopes: FINALLY some IMPARTIALITY was shown by two of the three Palm Beach election supervisors. Judge Burton, one of them, should be commended for his brave stand even though he IS a Democrat. Basically its this. Our machines were tested for accuracy BEFORE the election. They were then AGAIN tested for accuracy after the election and also after EACH recount (3). In EVERY CASE the machines showed 100% accuracy. Judge Burton forced the board to get a legal opinion as to whether they were allowed to have a hand count under those circumstances. Both the County attorney (a democrat) and the state elections supervisor (a republican) said they DID NOT have the legal authority to proceed. They now await comments if any from the STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL Bob Butterworth. Now, it should be known that Butterworth was Gores Fla. campaign chairman. I hope however he is also fair thinking and gives an honest opinion if he elects to give any at all. I have to believe that if the County Attorney who also is a Democrat and Judge Burton who also is a Democrat see that it is improper to proceed that he will also. JDN
