HD matches, JCP fall short --8:16 am - By Steve Gelsi Home Depot (HD: news, msgs) posted third quarter net earnings of $650 million, or 28 cents per share, up from net earnings of $573 million or 25 cents per share, in the year-ago period. The latest number matched the First Call estimate of 28 cents per share. JC Penney (JCP: news, msgs)reported a loss of 12 cents per share, before the effects of non-comparable items, for the third quarter. Including non-comparable items, the net loss was $30 million, or 15 cents per share, compared with net income of $142 million, or 51 cents per share, in last year's third quarter. The latest figure missed by a penny the forecast for a loss of 14 cents per share, in a survey of analysts by First Call. |
