MEATHEAD,<<<Furthermore, he has lost credibility these wild swings and HUGE quarterly misses. If he could only learn to guide the street with the accuracy of say... a Carly Fiorina.>>>

I get the drift. Even though you call yourself MEATHEAD, you are one of the most knowledgeable and astute posters on SI. Too bad a lot of people will not get it because you call yourself MEATHEAD. It is their loss.

In any case, I only disagree in part. It is a matter of degree how much I think Michael Dell has taken his eye off the ball. It is quite understandable, for me, to understand how because of his $billions, he may have lost some of his hunger. Rubbing elbows with the Bushes and other powerful beings, when his customer service slacks off, it may not seem as important as when he was running his business from a dormitory.

It is understandable that when he thinks he can hire people from IBM and pay them a small fortune and expect that they could do what Dell himself did not so long ago - and not get really what he paid and hoped for.

You have to understand, Michael Dell is still only in his early 30's, and he still has a lot of things to learn. Things that he could only learn from experience. He does not realize that those IBM'ers are really bureacrates in fancy suit disquise. They are not cut from the same cloth Michael wears.

There is no free lunch. If he wants to continue DELL's great run, he has to continue doing what he did in the past - work his @SS off.

If he wants to play the Great Gatsby - rub elbows with the rich and powerful, play the great philanthropist, and buy all the great toys - well that is just not the Michael Dell that got him to where he is now.

If that is what he wants to do, then let me know and I'll get off this train.

Mary
