I'm sorry Nemer.

Seems that a fellow working for more than a few years in any one place is truly very uncommon anymore, that's for certain. I think in many cases the layoffs during the economic downturns in the sixties and seventies contributed to that. People who had worked for many years at the same place were cut loose. This may have engendered a sense of distrust amongst their children. Why, after all, be loyal to a company when the upshot is that you are merely a replaceable cog.

This appears to be true even today in Japan, where the "lifetime" job works if you do not plan to live long.

Married 42 years, eh? There is an achievement in itself. I recently attended the third wedding of a friend my age. The joke is that he is trying to catch up with a judge we know, a fellow 8 years older who is scouting around for his 5th.

I took home the place setting with my name on it from the reception. I figure it's better to save it, it probably will get more use.

You are a good friend to your friends, Nemer. Sorry to hear of his loss.
