Wickes Inc. Reports October Sales

VERNON HILLS, Ill., Nov. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Wickes Inc. (Nasdaq: WIKS), a leading distributor of building materials and manufacturer of value-added building components, today reported sales of $106.7 million for the five weeks ended October 28, 2000 compared to $119.3 million and $102.9 million reported for October 1999 and October 1998, respectively.

As in recent months, lumber price deflation continued to negatively affect sales results and operating performance during the month of October. However, management indicated there was a lessening of the decline of prices overall. Random Lengths Framing Lumber Composite prices for the month fell an average of $80 per thousand board feet, or 22.1%, to an average price of $280 per thousand board feet for October 2000 compared to an average price of $360 per thousand for October 1999.
