I say give it to lame duck Bush. He won't be able to get anything done, including those massive tax cuts. W can't hurt our nation by paying off its debt, as long we have AG in charge.

Then in 2002, Dems take over Congress, and Gore can come back with a landslide in 2004, and keep the WH in Dems' hands for a long time to come.

You've got this half right. I agree that Bush will be a one-term, impotent President (just like the 3 others who won electoral college votes and lost the popular). He won't be able to do much harm, and will have a tough time getting reactionaries onto the Supreme Court.

However, hopefully the Dems will come up with a decent candidate in 2004. If Gore had been halfway a competent candidate, he would have mopped the floor with a weak candidate like doubya. His campaign ineptness rivaled Dukakis. I predict that both of them will be losers in 2004.
