I think it's very likely, should Bush win after the four-county handcount recount is complete and Bush has the most votes, that Gore would graciously, for the good of the nation, concede. After all, he is more of a statesman than is Bush.
However, should a Florida court eventually, due to one of the voter's lawsuit, overturn the validity of the Palm Beach County election and place the election in doubt once again, Gore's concession would become moot as, ultimately, whoever gets the most votes wins the election.
So why is Gore more of a statesman than is Bush?
Because Bush lost the popular vote and he knows, in his heart, that Buchanon got thousands upon thousands of Gore's votes, that Gore would have, should have and could have won Florida. Ironically, Bush's best move was to concede Florida.
This would have made him a national hero, respected for all time by both Democrats and Republicans alike, virtually assuring he'd become president in the future, barring scandal.
And I've got a gut feeling that there's more skeletons in Bush's background and that this is why he used his twin 18-year-old daughters as a smokescreen for not telling the American public about his DUI rap in Maine. Indeed, there was no reason not to inform the public about the DUI. So I think he thinks if he's gonna be the president, he's gotta do it now and hope he can slide through any controversy which may erupt in the future. |
