Mike, The way I see it, the fairness of the outcome is dependent on which you believe to be more unbiased and accurate - an automated count or a manual count. I think most of the other supposed issues aren't really issues. They are unsubstantiated accusations and problems with the process that need to be addressed in the future. I suspect the only thing that will make most people comfortable is a manual count of the entire state that verifies the automated counts. But if the manual count goes for Gore, it creates another issue. The assumption that a manual count is superior may be faulty - especially in terms of bias. I don't believe a split count is going to leave a good taste any anyone's mouth. Wayne
