George W. Bush has overtaken Al Gore in the race for Ventura County's popular vote, according to new results released Monday by election officials.
The new totals reflect an additional 70,271 absentee ballots counted since Nov. 7. But there are still 11,000 to 12,000 absentee ballots to count, county officials said, and final results will not be available until this afternoon.
Monday's tally showed Bush with 48.1 percent, or 127,627 votes, in Ventura County. Gore had 47.1 percent, or 125,168 votes.
Results the day after the election showed Gore beating Bush by 510 votes -- 110,003 to 109,493, or 47.7 percent to 47.5 percent. staronline.com |
