I listened to the conference call today:

Mr. Osterwise spoke for about 20 minutes on the three divisions of SCNG - their status when he came aboard - the changes - the opportunities - and the areas of emphasis. Starting with the Scanner division (established core business) - he was upbeat about the horizon broadening going on there - particularly color reprographics - which they are just scratching the surface on now - and an application for newspaper publishers - where there are some demo scanners in place - and for whom the use seems tailor made. IMO the scanner division potential is substantially upgraded from last year's projections. There is still optimism that the D of Def. will come through with money for scanners - and of course the backlog is there - could be some outsourcing on production for at least one of the scanner lines - and CPU still needs to come down. There are software products assoc. with the Scanner division that sound useful.

TRC is still in the process of finding its identity - and the bid set stuff is in the process of commercialization (getting stuff on line - inter or intra-net) for corp. to facilitate gov. job bidding - There was also mention or imaginc systems as well as comprehensive training for individuals in the application of available technology.

Sedona was last - and described as a developing business - for which the need for commercialization was acute. There has been large upgrading of personnel - and the catch phrase focus for all divisions was marketing - marketing - marketing!!! The War Sim software was presented to Defense personnel - and Mr. Osterwise felt it was a sensational success - and there was great potential there. He also discussed the relationship to Oracle - and the tie in from GIS to Oracle data bases. A question was asked about Oracle supposedly not being able to develop the geo-spatial aspect in house. Mr. O felt that was not exactly it - but that Oracle needed to stay focused on their core business - data base - and info transfer. Then!! he spoke about Oracle cartridge development - how they had quietly hired a brain to separate the components of a Sedona product - believe it was DM Tool -into the relational components that Oracle is talking about. I lost the train of thought there abit - (very sick today) - but I was intrigued about the resurfacing of the discredited topic of conversation re: Sedona's relationship to Oracle's spatial data base development - Maybe there is still nothing there - and hopefully someone else listened in and can fill in the gaps. He did say he felt Oracle was winning the contest with Informix in the cartridges vs. blades battle. Relevance??

Mr. Delle Donne did indeed leave for a bigger pasture - but Larry was quick to point out his accomplishments and the immediate hiring of Mr. Matthews - along with the industry connections being made.

All 50 lines of the conference were filled - there were few questions - some about dilution and solvency - Prudential was there - as were at least three other analysts. There was only Larry and Mr. Kelly at the SCNG table. Larry O said at the outset that he wouldn't mention projections but did discuss the quarterly. Felt that stock holders concerns were fairly balanced with concerns of the private placement investors. Was confident of $$ for at least another year.

What I took out of this was that there are very many irons in the fire. None by themselves can make this thing go in the short run. There is simply - no bad news of substance for the outlook of the business. There remains the need to execute - and they need time. They appear quite focused - and committed. Mentioned that Mulshine and Connie Lerner are available to answer our calls. I believe that the worst case scenario now - is not failure - but just the risk of only limping along behind the projections. It may be best to turn off the computer for 5 or 6 months and let them do their job.
