Tony, if you read the article, you'll notice that AMD is making their number one cheerleader, Van Smith, squirm.

- He pooh-poohs the cancellation of Mustang this way: "The reason that this large cache processor was nixed was reportedly due to the Texas company not seeing a substantial market for the chip." Uh huh, and Intel didn't report huge gains in the >$10K server market.

- He pooh-poohs the slip in 1.5 GHz Athlon to Q2 this way: "With a little chest thumping, the Austin based company maintains that Intel's current position with the Pentium 4 does not pose enough of a competitive threat to warrant launching the 1.5GHz Palomino sooner." Once again, the supreme AMDroid is using the old excuse of "AMD can release any speed grade any time they want, but they want to give Intel a fighting chance."

- Van did express discomfort at AMD's apparent slip in their 0.13u schedule, but then he echoes AMD spin on the subject: "They replied in unison that, while Intel might 'paper launch' 0.13 micron products in late Q2 of 2001, the Santa Clara rival would not likely be reaching quantity production until roughly the same time as AMD, six or seven months later in early 2002."

- Finally, Van made absolutely no mention of the slip in the K8 processors from Q4 2001 to Q1 2002.

Like I already mentioned, Van Smith is the Supreme AMDroid. I don't think AMD even needs to pay their PR guys anything since it sounds like Van will do their jobs for free.
