While it's really a subject for after the current event, the country is going to have to face and at least seriously discuss the fact that:

One has to pass a written and practical test to get licensed to drive a car-because otherwise one might be a danger to the public.

BUT

We allow someone to confer awesome and dangerous power on others without so much as proving their identity, much less their ability to exercise a sane judgment.

The recent exposure of the "focus groups" on the media made many of us ashamed to call those morons fellow citizens, but the problem runs so much deeper that the legitimacy of our system of government is threatened.

The mantra of "just get everybody to participate" will become, IMO, a blessed casualty of the current crisis...
