Great post from debeer on Raging Bull this afternoon:

ragingbull.altavista.com

Talk with Robert Putnam.

I am at work and normally communicate with Mr. Putnam by e-mail so please excuse this rough draft. Most of these words are mine, but I can assure you all inferences are 100% correct.

He stated Mr. Falk reported in from COMDEX that the response for the Treo was far exceeding their expectations and the reception by consumers and OEMs has been overwhelming.

He reiterated that the launch for Treo was originally slated for CES but it came together quicker than first thought so e.Digital hand built these units to make the COMDEX show. They were not really expecting this huge response at this early show. He stated there is nothing at COMDEX that comes close to the TREO.

No product will be labeled as Hy-Tek. The Treo will be OEM all the way (and it seemed to be many).

Remote/HanGo/Compaq still are selling the PJB so HanGo has to walk softly concerning the Treo. RP stated he was not surprised that some of the Remote/HanGo/Compaq people at the show were unaware of Treo. He stated The powers to be of these companies know what is going on and it is all good.

RP confirmed HanGo was ready with everything needed for full production and repeated,

"This is just the tip of the iceberg."

I will try to get more out as my thoughts and notes come together. Just wanted to get this out ASAP. Ken

e.Digital has a unique opportunity to create a new category of consumer electronic product in the portable jukebox, just as Sony did when it introduced the Walkman portable cassette player. The concept of being able to carry over 150 CDs of digital music (in the forthcoming 10 GB version) and instantly access any song or artist will quickly appeal to many tens of millions of consumers.

I had the opportunity last week to examine the Treo portable jukebox in detail and it does generate instant excitement. The e.Digital engineers have done a superb job of designing features that anticipate consumer desires. The sound quality is exceptional and the ability to store music at whatever sampling level the user desires will satisfy most audio demands.

Beyond the PC manufacturers (which Fred said are talking about initial orders in the mid-six figure range) there are the consumer electronics giants who are constantly looking for new blockbuster products, record labels who seek new outlets for their music, marketers of other consumer products (e.g. Nike) who want to appeal to the music-hungry youth market and retailers who need hot private label electronic products (e.g. Radio Shack)

The unit will likely retail initially in the $250 to $350 range and then considerably less when production economies have lowered the unit costs. But the cash flow to e.Digital should be enormous, whether the company is serving as the contract manufacturing source (and generating revenues of about $50 per unit) or as a licensor of the design and technology (and receiving a fee of $10 to $15 per unit).

I also believe that the device will also open the door to auxiliary products, such as satellite portable digital music players that the user could load directly from the juke box player.

I suspect that the DataPlay devices to be introduced at CES will also find great acceptance, since they offer similar functionality (massive storage of music in a portable device) with the added bonus that music can be either pre-recorded on those disks or transferred to them by the device owner.

It will be very interesting to watch the effect upon e.Digital's market valuation as favorable reviews of these new products reach an audience beyond the current shareholder base. In my opinion, the current share price does not reflect even a fraction of the enormous potential that these exciting devices may create for current shareholders.
