Anybody here looking at Sherwin-Williams (SHW)? I passed on it about a week ago. Also Benjamin Moore (MBEN) at that time because I couldn't find a 5-year history of the company or even a Yahoo message board. Mr. Buffett liked it well enough though I see now. (offering to buy MBEN last week at 51% premium over the day's $25 price)

finance.yahoo.com

Both companies seem to me to be in the same business, but SHW at $5B sales is larger, more diversified than MBEN (.8B)

I'll have to consider SHW a little closer, based on Mr. Buffetts desire for MBEN. SHW book value on Yahoo is more than twice the 1999 figure of $10.25 reported by SHW. And Yahoo shows no ltd. That is incorrect, I believe. (There was 624M in the '99 Financial Summary on the SHW web site.) Guess I'll have to head for the Value Line at my local library -g-.

For what I'd guess is a dull, prosaic company, SHW seems to have put together a decade or so of good numbers:

(Charts on SHW site are outdated -- end in '98; '99 numbers though do continue the positive trend.

Opinions welcome. Paul.
