Hi mishedlo; RDRAM is still quite dead, as has been noted in the trade press. I suppose you saw today's article again stating that Intel is thinking about letting third parties put the P4 on DDR before they can get their chipset out?
Intel may license Pentium 4 technology for chipsets By Michael Kanellos Staff Writer, CNET News.com November 14, 2000, 1:45 p.m. PT ... Paul Otellini, general manager of Intel's Architecture Group, said during a briefing at the Comdex trade show that the company is discussing licensing the system bus of the Pentium 4 to third-party chipset makers. If such deals are struck, it would likely give PC makers an opportunity to build Pentium 4 PCs with Double Data Rate (DDR) DRAM, rather than more expensive Rambus memory, in the first half of next year. ... yahoo.cnet.com
RDRAM has been a disaster for Intel, that's why they are having to give a discount on Intel processors that are forced to ship with it. Intel needs to guard their margins, so they will get rid of that discount as soon as possible. Since RDRAM doesn't seem to be coming down in price very fast, it's easy to predict that Intel will get rid of that discount by shifting over to SDRAM and DDR. For RMBS, that could mean higher royalties, why are you guys complaining?
