Vodafone PLC (VOD) 38 5/16: Vivendi (V : 14 1/2) and Vodafone are in talks to start a mobile Internet information service aimed at competing with NTT DoCoMo's 'i-mode' system according to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun.

----------

Q - Why will operators rush to share value added profits with NTT?

A - They won't. I-Mode - NTT's darling creation - is not proprietary in technology nor concept.

And it's not proven, nor particularly logical, that I-Mode's culture-specific content and marketing will seduce those outside Japan's adolescent market.

What will become of NTT if I-Mode deflates?

Where will NTT be if fawning press coverage turns analytic or skeptical?
