Wayne, I think the fact that a judge is a registered Democrat does not carry quite the same impact as being campaign manager for Bush in Florida. After all, if Dubya loses, the Secretary has been a failure and will be persona non grata in the future.

I think the judge could be aiming at a higher court appointment. But, then, as Earl Warren surprised conservative Republicans, you never know how a judge will lean once he gets his sinecure.
