InternetWeek Selects F5 Networks' E-Commerce Controller as Its Top Pick for SSL Product Review
InternetWeek lab's rigorous testing reveals that F5 Networks' product handles the most demanding levels of SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) traffic at the best price-performance
¶ SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 15, 2000--F5 Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:FFIV), the leading provider of Internet traffic and content management (iTCM) products, today announced that InternetWeek has selected F5 Networks' E-Commerce Controller as the winner of its SSL Appliance Lab Test. ¶ Out of twelve invitees, including companies like Alteon and Phobos, only F5 Networks, Intel, and CyberIQ participated in the test. ¶ According to the InternetWeek review, "The E-Commerce Controller from F5 Networks came out on top of our Lab Test and is therefore awarded Best of Breed. We really like the browser-based configuration and management, and the flexibility of interface types makes it an easy fit into any network. The E-Commerce Controller showed it could handle the most demanding levels of traffic while doing it all at the lowest price of all the appliances."
¶ Why SSL acceleration?
¶ InternetWeek's test focused on the performance of the products under heavy client traffic loads. Forty percent of the product's grade hinged on its overall performance. According to InternetWeek, "We saw firsthand the vast improvement in SSL processing by using an accelerator in front of our Web server. Without acceleration, our Web server topped out at about 60 clients with 100 percent CPU utilization before sessions and transactions started being dropped at a high rate. With the appliances in place, server CPU utilization never rose above 15 percent, even at full load." ¶ "We are very pleased to see the results of InternetWeek's SSL product testing, which demonstrates F5's leadership in delivering the most high performance and cost effective traffic and content management solutions on the market. It's interesting to note that we were one of the few vendors who were willing to have our solutions publicly reviewed through this rigorous test," said Erik Giesa, Director of Product Management for Internet Traffic Management at F5 Networks. "InternetWeek's independent test results reflect F5's ability to understand any organization's SSL needs and meet them like no other vendor."
¶ About the E-Commerce Controller
¶ F5 Networks' E-Commerce Controller is a special purpose product built to provide high speed SSL encryption/decryption and centralize SSL certificate management. With its ability to handle up to 16,000 concurrent connections, and 17 million transactions a day, the E-Commerce Controller has unequalled power to process long SSL sessions that otherwise would severely impede network performance and limit the number of e-commerce transactions that can be completed. The E-Commerce Controller, which leverages F5's BIG-IP(R) 'best practices' load balancing approach, brings SSL scalability and performance to new heights and maximizes web server investments.
