I don't think you are correct in this matter. First, you implicitly assume that ballots are not altered or the ballot box stuffed. I don't believe that assumption is valid, particularly as recounts stretch into weeks, or (gasp) months. Second, since Democrats have a marked propensity to be unable to follow the simplest instructions (but are expert in issuing instructions to others), there is considerable disagreement over whether some ballots are valid. Republicans believed one of the county commissioners was heavily biased toward Gore, and unsuccessfully petitioned to have that commissioner removed from the process (just how "pregnant" was that chad?).

For a colorful rendition of my line of thinking, I am reprinting SJS's post 14186 from the JDSU thread (mis-spellings and all).

<<Pat,

As illogical as it sounds, there is no such thing as an honest total. You are plumbing into the depths
of statistiscal improbability with this election.

Not in my wildest dreams could I have ever believed this election would ride on 1 state, 1 district,
and 200 votes out of millions.

Challenging the concept of "punch through" and partial punch through to determine the presidency?
Too much ambiguity. Therefore, the true count will forever remain in the realm of
undefined........forever.

Why? Because the rules of this count need concensus definition. Every ballot needs intrepretation
based on those rules.

It can take years to define the rules of EVERY POSSIBLE permutation of ballot punches. And
then......statistically, there will be those that fall outside those rules. Forever spiralling in
down....down......down. Then defining new rules to solve those problems requires you go back and
recount again, to see if any marginal decisions were the wrong ones.

Even with intrepretation, there will statistically be some ballots that will be argued about forever.

Reminds me of the particle-wave duality problem, or the problem Erwin Shrodinger had with
his cat. LOL

Hey, I didn't start this discussion! But just to show how relevant it is I'll note SFY is up 1 5/8 today to 32 11/16. And Truth (I think) predicted a drop under 30 would portend a further price decline!
