Freedom of fundraising means tyranny of the rich and special interests. True money isn't everything but in Bush's case vs. McCain it never gave democracy a chance.
Gore too would have been challenged if he didn't have the money and machinery behind him. 1992 was a good election because the Dems had 7 candidates none of whom had big-time money or party support. The winner was the one who connected and proved himself the most able to withstand the pressures and still communicate clearly why he wanted to be president. Clinton was a man who came from nothing, a small state, and his election showed that democracy can work. It also had Perot who might have won if he hadn't been such a squeaky dwarfish military nut. When he made Admiral Stockdale his VEEP candidate that discredited him as anyone real.

This election was no such exercise in democracy. Except for Nader who's too far left for most people we had no choices and the entire campaign was insane. After awhile one couldn't believe anything either candidate said except "I need your vote!". And the entire campaign was concentrated in 15 states. The rest of the country was ignored. This was all dictated by the system we have in place now which should be changed. And soon.
